Jury Citation
“With In the Name of the Father, Daniel Poliquin has succeeded in finding a fresh and innovative approach to the fault line between Quebec myth and Quebec nationalism and executed that approach in an eloquent and often witty way. The judges found the book a polemic tour de force making deft use of imaginary characters, first person opinions, dialogue and scene setting that are often the tools of the novelist. His treatise--that separatists are a self-colonized breed who are still making amends for the humiliation of their fathers in the near and distant past--is bound to do what excellent political writing should, that is to infuriate, tantalize and make one think.” – 2001 Shaughnessy Cohen Prize for Political Writing Jury (Maggie Siggins, Pamela Wallin, and Hugh Winsor)
