About the Book

Professor Speckstein’s dog has been brutally killed and he wants to know why. But Vienna is under Nazi rule, an atmosphere of paranoia and suspicion is the new reality, and one must be careful where one probes. Part mystery-thriller, part psychological study, The Quiet Twin is set in an apartment building with a cast of enigmatic neighbours – a young doctor, an inscrutable janitor, a secretive mime, and the lonely daughter of an alcoholic – each with their own reasons for keeping their private lives hidden from public scrutiny.
